Skimmer tuning: Coralbox D500 plus

CoralBox skimmers tend to like to run with the water in the sump on the higher side.
Always do smaller changes. To large of a change then you don’t know what’s best.
Start with what I had mentioned then we’ll go from there. Let me know in the morning where you are at and what the skimmer is doing.

One problem many have with CoralBox is the Venturi tends to plug up rather quickly. About a month and you will get restrictions.
But I do have a solution to that .

The water outlet is 2/3 closed and the air is full open. I only have a tubing that goes outside for the air intake that surely add some resistance.

This my reason for running the pump at full speed for know. Running air intake outside will have further restriction of air. I would like to see slightly more air in the skimmer as the water level in the skimmer is on the high side for my liking. By adding more air , then water volume can go down.

This is with full power, and 7.5 inches water level. It seems better. Do you think it should be lower?

I started from full open but was very low and I started closing until the bubbles were starting to form in the neck. In the video you can see the level. How does it look to you? Thanks

Looks good!
But you could easily raise the water level again by another inch if you want. This will allow you to open the outlet more relieving the pump further more from back pressure.
This will allow for more air and water flow through the skimmer. Hence slightly better performance.

There is one last thing that I would like you to try and that is to remove the air line that goes outside. Remove it at the silencer only to see if you notice an increase of air production. You’ll know within 5 minutes.

I have the CoralBox 300 and ran it in 10 inches of water and pump at full power.

I already know that the tube is causing a little less air. Whenever I remove it the water level inside the skimmer bumps up a little bit.

Thanks I've had it for almost one year now. Never been able to tune it perfectly.

The skimmer today looks like it's not skimming as it should. I could try to close the outlet a bit more. What do you think?

I can try to help but ultimately your in control and do what you feels works best.
Question for you. When was the last time you removed the Venturi ?
