hello, I was hoping someone wanted to weigh in on skimmer choices. I have the 50 gallon SCA PNP and the stock skimmer is pretty hit or miss depending on the week so I think I'm going to upgrade. The section in the sump for the skimmer is 8 x 8, so I'm somewhat limited what I can fit in there.

I've come up with these skimmers that would fit and are rated for heavy bioload around my tank size:

AquaMaxx FC-80 In-Sump Protein Skimmer
Reef Octopus Classic 110 Space Saver Protein Skimmer
Bubble Magus Curve 5 In Sump Needle Wheel Protein Skimmer w/ Bubble Plate
Bubble Magus Curve A5 In Sump Protein Skimmer

I'd like to spend somewhere in that realm ($160-190)

any thoughts on those particular skimmers or brands? anything else I'm missing?

Thanks!

Any of the ones you have listed would be a fine choice. I have both Bubble Maggus and Reef Octopus with my RO being the one I like better..

I have the bubble magus curve Five in my 45 gallon ( with 20 gallon sump) that I love, although it is actually overkill even with a heavy bio load I think it’s a fabulous choice.
The one your looking at is the one I have. There are two other models. This is the oldest model.

Look at this one it’s the newest model of the curve five, and yes it’s is a little more

They may break the budget but don’t overlook the new Tunze comlines. Freaking amazing! The way they surface skim as well keeps my setup unbelievably clean. So well that I keep running a 9010 on my 180 to keep the sump sparkling, in addition to the big boy 9430.
