Skimmer vs hob

preface: I needed to make a thread as an fng

For the purpose of filtration and nutrient export in a casual budget tank.

Would a mini q or a similar nano skimmer work in place of a traditional hob filter?

OP... how big is the tank? Maybe a HOB skimmer to get the best of both worlds?
If its a small tank, i would hate to have a skimmer occupying 20% of the space inside.

But if its a really small nano tank, then your best off with weekly water changes, and no skimmer.
