Skimmer water level question

Ok, as the title states this is about the operating depth of a skimmer in a sump.

If a skimmer's operational depth is say 8"...does that mean 8" of water from the bottom of the skimmer to the water line on the body?

I just measure from the bottom of the sump to the top of the water line. I measure on the outside, a 1/8 in def isn't going to make a difference IMO.

It means the unit should be 8" under water. Not the water line inside the skimmer for your skimmate, but the bottom of the skimmer should be 8" under water.

That's what I figured, but wanted to make sure. I need to raise mine up a little.
