I have an Aqua One G216 skimmer, it came with my kit and it's rubbish so I'm going to replace it. I'm thinking with a Bubble Magus G5.

On the reviews I've read it's talked about setting the water level.

What is this, can you not just dump it in the sump?

Water level is the depth of the water the skimmer sits in. I believe that skimmer is somewhere around 9 1/2” to 11”. So you would need at least 9 1/2” of water in the skimmer section of the sump. From there you would need to adjust the skimmer for either skimming wet or dry.

Being as this is a popular skimmer, I would almost bet there is a YouTube video on how to set it up and tune it.

How deep is water in sump where you want to place skimmer?

If the sump is 220-230, you will need a stand for the skimmer to get it to perform the best. Eggcrate, acrylic stacked up, or even a pvc stand will work.
