Hey everyone well I have a question about my sump, i took my skimmer out the other day to clean it and noticed that my sump had all kinds of trash in the bottom of it and was wondering if any one cleans there sump and if so how do you keep the trash getting stured up in in my tank.

Siphon the detritus out from the bottom of the sump

If you have a sponge or some other mechanical filtration between the skimmer chamber and the return pump you can place a small power head in the sump. Then the sponge should catch it and you just need to rinse it from time to time.

Every water change or when I clean my skimmer I just reach in there and stir it viciously with my hand. It suck it all into the sponge and I clean it as mentioned above. I saw a build article here on R2R where someone bought a dedicated bucket head wet dry and only used it for his tank/sump - awesome and for $22 at home depot I may have to do the same.
