This will be my first saltwater aquarium, it's 65 gallon and I'm going to drill the back for the overflow and return and I have a 20L in the bottom that I'm going to build a sump with, my issue is room in the bottom, I only have 18" clearance. Are there any low profile skimmers that will fit in there? I'm still in heavy research mode right now trying to plan all of this out...

That's not much clearance to work with. I've been perusing skimmers online and found most of them are above 18 inches tall for the in-sump skimmers. I found this one that is supposed to be 13 inches tall but may be too small for your tank depending on your bioload

You'll have to look at how tall the 20 long is and if you'll have enough room to remove the cup for cleaning and to remove the whole skimmer for maintenance. If you can't remove the skimmer easily, then you wont want to maintain it like it should be and it won't work as well as it could in the long run.

Oh! And welcome to R2R! #reefsquad

Agree with the recommendation, also welcome to the forum!

Thanks, I suppose I could put 2 of those small reef octopus skimmers in the sump, I'm not totally opposed to a hang on skimmer if that's what I have to do, or I also saw a tunze skimmer that mounts with magnets inside the display tank.

What if you cut a hole in the shelf above the cabinet? You could us that wood to hide the hole. I am thinking like a 8x8" hole with hinges and then you could fit a Bubble Magus C-3.5 and be able to take the cup off via the hole.

I agree that it might be difficult if not possible to find a skimmer that would work. I also noticed that the stand top has a small lip that extends over the edges and the tank edges are resting on it. That worries me regarding the stand being able to support the tank. What is the stand made of? Was it designed for this size aquarium?

It came with the tank as a set from petsmart, it seems real solid, but I have been looking around at some other stands with more room underneath.its a pretty small lip, maybe a half inch, looks bigger in the pic

I don't think I would be able to get the whole skimmer out for cleaning through the hole if I did

The cup would come out that way and you could take the skimmer out through the bottom

The first thing that came to my mind d was an HOB skimmer that you hang off the sump....done!
