This is my first time using a protein skimmer and I don't know if I should be giving more air or less air. Seems light I get light green skimmate at night for some reason. Can someone give me some tips about using a protein skimmer.

How new is the tank? If your tank hasn't been up and running for very long your skim wont be very dark as there isn't alot of dead organics for it to skim out :)

I tried something not recommended. I used the dry Rock that was once live to cycle the tank. The tank has been up for almost a month.

What kind of skimmer is that? It almost looks like a Venturi driven skimmer. If it is, is your pump powerful enough to drive it? On the neck it shows a water level. To me it looks like you should raise the water level in the skimmer. We need more info on this skimmer before we can help.

Old school skimmer there, they do work well if setup right. Like Crabs said, you might not have organics for it to pull.
Or like what GQuinn said, it might be under driven or tuned incorrectly. How long has it been up and running? The bubbles look pure white telling me that there are no organics.

It's a proclear aquatics mps 150 skimmer that came with the setup I bought used. Seems if it runs overnight the bubbles thicken up. Here's a couple of pics. Thanks.

That looks better...
I was wondering since it's a triple venturi if I can stick an air tubing somehow to the intake of the pump to get more bubble production like the Marineland 1200/ seaclone skimmer.

I would not try modding that skimmer, it will do fine for lighter demand tanks just the way it is. I had one just like it a few years back.
