I'm considering replacing my skimmer. My first one is a seaclone 100. It's okay, but it makes alot of noise and it seems to stop skimming anytime I do anything like feed, move something in the tank, stick my hand in. I feel like I can do much better. My question is.... when I change it, do I need to keep the old one running until the new one breaks in? I don't want to leave my tank without the only filtration it has.

Get a 5 gallon bucket and put about 8” of water in it. Put the new skimmer in there. Dump some skimmate from the current skimmer into the bucket, run both skimmers as is for a week or two and then switch over.
