I need to order a new skimmer but I'm ready to full my tank and I would like to, I was wondering if I could start cycling my tank without a skimmer until the skimmer arrives witch would be like 2 or 3 weeks

Yes you don't need a skimmer while cycling.some people think running a skimmer during the cycle can prolong it.

All I have right now is the HOB overflow and a sump with a filter sock and sponge

Lots of folks never run a skimmer at all - depends how you want to run your tank.

You are definitely fine during cycling without one. A little water flow is all you really need (no light, skimming, reactors, etc) at that time.

I have rock and sand cycling in a tank right now that's only 2/3 full lol. Mostly dry rock with about 15 lbs of live rock. As long as have water movement, top water aeration to allow oxygen into te water easier your good.

I started with a skimmer but found it was pulling out too much so now I run skimmerless & change 10% water a week. I have high end zoas, lps & a few sps all doing great without it.
