Hi guys i was wondering of a skimmer has any other benefits apart from nutrient export? I dont usually run one as i have low nutrients. I know it raises my ph slightly but anything else?

But if your ph is higher? Mine sits at 8 to 8.4.

Certainly not a necessity. It would still increase aeration/O2 levels.

How are you checking pH? I really haven't come up with a method that I like.

Skimmer certainly can function as a gas exchanger, though in a properly circulated tank the impact is actually quite minimal (tested my tank a few years ago with a DO meter). Skimmer can also be helpful if you decide to carbon dose - though the properly circulated caveat applies there too.

Ph probe, i have tonnes of flow and light so my ph gets upto 8.45 around 5/6 pm just before lights ramp down. Only difference i see is in the morning. If skimmer was running over night its at 8.0 or if not 7.9. Had to put skimmer on as i used a floculant to clear up the water. Though dont think skimmer done jak all
