Ok. Here is the low down. I am going to buy a better skimmer in the very near future i already have a skimmer but a CRAPPY one (bak pak 2 with airstone and mesh mod on the pump) Here are my current options from aquacave.com. I have a 75 gallon tank but hopefully will soon upgrade to a 120 or 125. These are the prices cuz they have free shipping over $175

1. Turboflotor Multi SL Protein Skimmer (25-250 gallons) - $237.45
OR
2. Reef Octopus Extreme 160 Protein Skimmer (25-160 gallons) - $284.95

I have heard from people that the Octopus Extreme skimmers are good but ive heard the regular octopus skimmers are JUNK. Also it doesnt matter if the skimmer is an internal or external cuz im gonna build a 30 gallon sump/refugium also in the near future. If you have any other recommendations on other skimmers in that price range or less please by all means let me hear it..

I have 2 turboflotors with the oceanrunners pump, I have the hang on and the insump I like them very much, also u can adjust the water flow on them wich helps a lot when dosing supplements.

Yea others recommended the MSX160 on thereeftank.com. They said they were very good skimmers. So what is a better skimmer the MSX160 or the Octopus Extreme 160? They both have Siccie pumps

Under $300. Remeber its for a 75 gallon tank with a soon to be 30 gallon sump. I was thinking of........

A) Turboflotor Multi SL - $237.45
B) Reef Octopus Extreme - $284.95
C) MSX 160 - $284.39

All prices include shipping. Which do u guys think???

The Octopus is a rip off from the MSX, they are the same skimmer. For $15 more, get the 200, you can't have to big of a skimmer. :D
:D :D :D

Get the MSX 160 run it with the pinwheel.
This skimmer needs a constant level in the sump and will run best in 7- 8" of water.

I have never owned a msx, but I replaced my Turbflotor with an Octopus needlewheel 200 (The New Model) on my 125 gallon with 60 gallon sump.. The Turboflotor is a good skimmer, it just doesn't process enough water, and has a smaller chamber. I have been very happy with my needlewheel 200. I also like it better than my ASM G2, I have on my 75 gallon system. I feel the needlewheel 200 is the best bang for the buck. Definately not a piece of c#*p.

not a piece of crap at all but the sicce motor on the extremes is just superior to the OTP pumps on the OctoNW.

the octo pump does between 10 and 20 SCFH and the sicce ranges from 20-50schfh depending on how its setup.
