skimming no mo????

set up my aquac EV 180 yesterday and within 15 minutes it was putting out great skim. See attached picture and this was only 12 hours in.

This morning I am not getting a thing.. As far as I know nothing has changed. Using a 900 gph pump to feed the thing and it seemed to just quit.

Skim bubbles yesterday were huge 1/2 - 3/4 inch with air flow wide open but today they are very fine 1/16. I fooled around with the water output but whatever I do I see no change.

Anyone have any idea's???

this pic was taken 12 hrs. after startup,, needless to say I was thrilled but now zero yet the pump is still putting out..

How old is your tank? Fish load? Maybe there is not enough to keep skimming. That skim looks pretty clean, not a lot of solids in it.

tank is 24 years old.. fish load is heavy 6 fish for total of 20 in total lenght..but the sump is only a week old.... 75 gal. display and 40 gal sump with 30 gallons of water. just can't figure out what happened in 24 hrs to make a drastic change like that. thanks for the reply...

My ev-180 does this on our 125. we just went from a HOB reef octopus to this new one and its been up for about three weeks maybe. Like you I had skim at around 10 hrs. woke up that morning nothing, that evening, started skimming once again. I have it running 24 hrs a day and I just let it do its thing. Its a beast!

This is currently my only issue with my tank and setup.... the skimmer (coral dc500) works great for a day then does nothing.
I have found that if I switch the skimmer off for a short while (10 mins) and start it up again, it starts to form a good foam again.... not sure why this is....but it helps.

I'm thinking about now only running my skimmer for a set number of hours a day, so that it is always pulling stuff out so needing less maintenance.
