skimming question

Which removes more , wet or dry skimming ? Which is preferred , and why.

its personal preference. wet skimming removes more because its 1/2 water. I prefer a wetter skimmate because it dosnt stink as bad. but the collection cup has to be emptied more

I don't know but you need to keep the neck of your collection cup clean even if you're not getting skimmate. Crud can build up and impede performance. With crud, foam cannot rise in the neck.

my g-3 dosnt collect skimmate until it gets some crud in the top of the neck of the skimmer....

Adjust so the foam just starts at the bottom of the neck. There is a short break in period if it's been cleaned before it starts skimming. It has to film the side of the neck and then that starts the foam and separation process. From my understanding wet skimming doesn't do as much. Your looking to separate the nasty from the good. When wet skimming you will let some of that nasty back into your tank through the discharge of the skimmer.
