I’m offering for sale my MBR157 Algae reactor for $220 cash. This unit was purchased new in October from BRS, and has been running since then in my reef. New from BRS it’s $329.

There are no issues with it, it works great. I'm going to downsize to the MBR127, which is smaller. As much as I want the higher volume, the size creates a real hassle with my layout when I need to service it and I've decided that I don't want any hassles :). The unit I have is 22" tall, the smaller one is 17".

The unit has been removed from my system and cleaned with vinegar.

Pick up will be available in Little Egg Harbor 08087, or Eatontown 07724 (I'm in Eatontown 3 days a week, M-W-F usually).

I will consider shipping if a local sale does not happen.

Thanks for looking

Dave

out of curiosity, do you think this could easily be modded to work without the pump and instead use water fed from a manifold or tee off a return pump for example?

Can the pump be removed and tubing be used instead? Would it still stand upright? And is there something for tubing to attach to? I’m also curious to know where the water outlet is located. Can that water be directed somewhere specific like to another reactor or sump chamber?

I looked at it, you sure could run it off a manifold. Due to the design, it would still have to be in sump.

Bonus, you’d have an extra small dc pump. :)

Did you sell this? Tell me what your thoughts are about how this impacted your system. What is your system volume?

Sorry, it’s not available. My original sale fell through and I decided to keep it. It’s now running in my new frag tank, nice and easy to get to.

As for impact, it’s measurable. It allows me to reduce the gfo I use ( I feed a lot). It also allows a healthy pod population for the fish in the frag tank including a mandarin.

Thanks for getting back. Glad to hear things worked out for you with it. The more I hear about these, I'm thinking its something I want to try. Did you see any kind of PH increase by chance? I've read these can help raise PH.

Yes, a slight one. I don’t know if my experience is a good one to judge this by in regards to PH. The reactor is a cog in the machine here.

My tank is in wall, and the back of my garage is the “tank room”. For a few reasons related to this I struggle with high CO2, which translates to low ph, even with an outside air line running to a CO2 scrubber setup before hitting the skimmer air intake. That, and the algae reactor can barely keep it where I need it. I also need to use kalk in my alk & calcium dosing regimen to help lower the CO2 and raise PH (the bulk of alk and calcium come from 2 part dosing).
