Skimz Protein Skimmer

What's deal with Skimz? Who is running them and how is the reliability?
This is the model I am looking at
Skimz SM167 Monzter DC .

I used to run one a few years ago when they came out. As long as the you get the orange controller on the pump it'll be fine. Seemed like a great skimmer to me and it used to pull lots of gunk. +1

I had a Skimz Kone SK181 for awhile. It was a good quality skimmer. The pump never had any issues. It was somewhat finicky to tune, but overall it was a good skimmer.

You mean the white and orange controller or just solid orange?

I think they are white and orange now. The black ones were the faulty ones.

I heard the pumps on the skimz DC skimmers were just jabeo pumps (direct replacements). So I would assume the DC versions have the same level of jabeo reliability, but on the plus side that also means they can have a cheap replacement cost.

I personally recently got the SL200 for the hopefully more reliable AC pump.

I have several (5) Jebao pumps that have more than 3 years of use and still going strong. Considering all the issues I keep seeing with peoples' skimmers while I'm shopping and researching, I've see A LOT of brand name skimmers who's pumps have died in less than 2 years. Saying something has a jebao doesn't mean what it used to 3+ years ago. now its just people mad because they paid a lot more for something branded with a name, when they didn't have to.

I still use the sm163. Great skimmer for me.

I'm using for 4 years a SK 181 in a 230g reef sps, it is very strong and reliable. I recommend clean it with citric acid at least once a year. Mine seems like new.
