Saw a very small, very skinny Green Mandarin at the LFS 3 weeks ago. I've been wanting to add one to my tank, but also know they need a healthy pod population. So, I've been cultivating my own Tisbe and Tig pods for a couple of months in preparation. I also have a fuge, with Chaeto, and pods all over the glass after the lights go out. I wish I would have taken a picture of her when I bought her so I could compare....but now I've lost all my frame of reference. Anyway, I took a short video of her this morning when the tank was starting to wake up (no lights on yet - just ambient room lighting). Orange spotted Goby makes a Cameo as he is coming out of his den for the morning feast.

Anyway, I bought the Mandarin, knowing that because she was so skinny, I would need to make sure she eats. I've put a 'jar' of pods in the tank twice a week for the last three weeks to boost things along. She still looks skinny to me....My question is, is it at the point of real concern? She hunts all day and is appearing to be eating, and I've seen her eat a little of the baby mysis I put in. What else could I add to fatten her up more? I also noticed that her top fin has a small rip. This is new. I haven't seen any aggression at all towards her from any of the other tank mates. Flow was off for the videos because I just dumped in pods.

I wouldn't worry about it. Mine hunts all day long same as yours. Fattest fish in my tank now.

As long as she's hunting and eating, and you know you have a healthy pop population, I wouldn't be too worried. It took my Mandy a few months to put on noticeable weight.
