Skipping the poop phase

So carbon dosing does the same thing as increasing feeding except you skip the need for the fish pooping phase of the cycle? What else does it do differently?Thanks Paul4140
 
I wouldn't make that analogy. It is very different.

It drives bacterial growth, and in some cases, feeds higher organisms.

Without any N and P being added with it, those creatures need to take up phosphate and nitrate (or ammonia) to grow.

Hence, nutrients are lowered and the bacteria are available as food for filter feeders, such as sponges. :)
 
Carbon dosing removes Nitrates from the water without doing water changes, also will remove some phosphates, and at a slower rate.
