I recently acquired a beautiful 5" Maxima, and usually a telltale sign of good health is for them to react when shadowed. But what if you have an active tank and it is constantly being shadowed, causing it to stay retracted all the time. Do they get use to it after a while? Anyone have experience with this? Thank you

What a beautiful clam and system. I see you have other clams in the system that look healthy. The only time I have had clams stay closed is when a fish was nipping at the mantle.

Thank you for your replies! I've had the Gigas almost 12 years.

Not to take a chance of a potential nipper, or another stressor slowly killing it. I moved the clam to an adjacent shared tank with different lighting and flow, and what do you know within an hour it opened right up. Maybe it felt intimidating in front of the Gigas, or the glitter lines from a MH at 31" was annoying it. Who knows?

Amazing gigas saw your videos when you were moving it to the new tank. For the maxima it will get used to the shadows after a while.
