How long do skunk cleaners live. I have two. I want them gone. I go to feed my duncan and those crooks go and loot the thing. Honestly when i was really young i was dying to have one. Everyone in my family loves them but honestly i see no benefit to them. I see quite often them cleaning my fish but honestly id rather trade the 2 for a wall hammer. Or something else. I have a wrasse that takes care if everything. And i have tried to distract the shrimp did not work

I heard they live around 2 to 4 years in captivity. I have one skunk cleaner shrimp and I always feed the shrimp first, then feed anything else. So far, everything is going well. Try feeding the shrimp first!

I have tried feeding it first but its usually ends up going after the corals. They are cute but im tired defending my corals with an acrylic rod

You can also cover your Duncans with a plastic dome while they are eating... it should keep the shrimp out. Skunks learn quickly and will steal food from corals at every opportunity.

As stated above, it can help by making sure they are fat and happy before targeting the corals for feeding.

A couple years is about right.

You said you feed the shrimp. Have you tried a bigger piece of krill or cocktail shrimp? That has kept mine busy in the past.

I'm with OP.... I know giving the shrimp food first keeps being suggested but that's not the issue. It's as if they can smell the food from within the stomach/mouth of the coral. They will literally shove their claws down the mouths of my Duncan coral/Acans etc... and pull food out. I'm having a hard time catching mine. I built the water bottle trap /w a piece of cocktail shrimp and it's in the tank now so we'll see if I come home to a shrimp in a bottle or what but he won't even go close to the bottle. Knows something is suspicious.

I guess I can update it now... he fell for the trap. Came home from work to a shrimp in a bottle. Straight to the LFS with it. Mine also crawls up my hand but good luck actually trying to grab it or net it.

Honeslty i bought my two for 25 each and they are fat and healthy, i think my lfs would be happy to trade to them for a torch or something. They would sell overnight. Here is the crook standing near my torch :)

I would do it! All my corals look so much happier today without the shrimp walking all over them. Not to mention feeding them was words easier. Didn't have to keep my turkey baster in the water for 30 minutes shoo'ing away the shrimp from shoving it's claws down their mouths.
