Hello guys this is my reef set up is three years old pic above is current set up.

Tank ran great very low maintenance for 2.5 years last year hurricane Irma passed through and due to lack of power for 8 days everything was lost... tank sat running but no love for about 6 months after that.

A month and half ago I decided to clean up and make another go of it.

Set up is a Innovative Marine Micro 30
Light is a AI Hydra 52 Non Hd
Hydro slim skimmer
Jbj ato
Carbon filters
Two tunze power heads with controls run on else
Red Sea coral color program

Livestock
Pair of fancy clowns
Basic clean up crew

On April 11 I got a nice pack of corals from Harry’s frags

Two weeks later another set on a trade for my old light from a member here

Levels have been very stable past two months but high nonetheless I think it’s from running for about six months with nothing in it using Red Sea coral pro salt witch has high levels I’ve since switched too instant ocean reef salt since levels are lower and I will be dosing everything I need once levels drop to where I want.

Allowing it to drop by not dosing and watching kh daily for any change and water changes

I have the full set of Red Sea program will start really dosing once I start consuming more nutrients frags in tank are only a 1.5 old so there still adjusting.

I love my cube it was once 100% covered so looking forward to starting agian I have not lost really anything since starting back up so on a great start.

Hurricane season is coming agian this year we are buying a generator and the tank will get a some time per day in worse case so I don’t lose everything agian.

Thanks for looking here are a few pics I built a structure out of egg crate I love it it’s a bit unnatural but with time it will turn color and I achieved my goals of height surface area getting rocks out of sand and places to put frags once everything settles.

Current full tank shot. Not the best but all alive lol

So far tank is going along have not lost any coral in a few months although I did manage to bleach a few with too strong of lightning this AI hydra 52 is a lot of light for my tank I’ve seen tanks twice as Big running this light so I’ve used acclimation mode for about two months now. I’ve built up too 75% on blues UV and purple and 20%on white red 15% and green about 10%. Montis and sps are starting to get there color back now thankfully.

Aside from that fragging wise I’ve basically have Fraged everything I’ve had so far and made doubles and triples of some things all healthy and healing so I’m happy about that. I would say messing around with them and cutting had affected colors as I guess it takes time to bounce back. Zoas sps monti acan gsp all have been cut and worked out.

Placement I’ve placed frags all over at this point super high up down low all frags that we’re doubles one high one low just as experiments to see what I have going on. My rainbow monti bleached at bottom of tank but is now at very top and doing much better for example. My punk rockers lost the bright orange red skirt at bottom but have doubled in size glued to the wall at the top. So just been experimenting with placement that way.

Stability so I have achieved stability but my problem is levels are to high for optimal growth. I’ve been at 1500 mag 12dkh and 480-500 calcium for about three months now. I have all the Red Sea supplements and test kits but have stopped dosing as it’s not needed. Was doing 5gallon water change once a week using reef crystals and tap water witch I think is the source of my problem super high levels combined with non rodi water. I’ve since decided not to do a water change for about a month get levels down naturally then start dosing agian and switch to Red Sea blue bucket once Alk is down to 9.

Bonus season approaches waiting on it to hit bank[emoji322] I plan to purchase a mp10qd and toss one of my older jeabo pumps it has done very well over the past three years but she done at this point. The bigger Jeabo will stay and accompany the mp-10 and I’ll use it to mix salt as well.
I also plan on purchasing a 4pump doser from eBay for calcium alk mag and red Sea coral food a/b product once levels drop to were I want them and get it going automated.
Was thinking of getting an apex but it cost to much and I’m more concerned with test the big three and probably won’t be able to afford trident when it come out. My light is WiFi controlled on my phone the mp10 will be fine on reef crest my ato works fine on it own just don’t see the justification for a 30gallon.

That’s my story guys I’ll take some better photos later on as I have had some nice growth and tank does look good.

Really been thinking about adding a minimax media reactor to run gfo

And adding a media basket where my filter sock is with chemi pure cheato and a carbon pad?

I only have two fish and a skimmer so bio load is low but I want to add a ton of pods so I can keep a red mandarin and can control the heavy feeding I’ll be doing. I know there hard to keep but my tank is couple years old and I’m ready for the experience..

Any suggestions?

Today I added a dp4 doser to my set up from a reef2reef member sale here. Also got a acrylic 4 tube holder and a bracket to hold the pump it self on. 25 feet of airline tubing.

Super happy to have it got it all set up in about an hour or so.

Did the 100ml calibration tested it at 25 and dosed perfect!

Then did the Manuel dose to get air out of lines

Going too use 3 channels for now dosing 5ml of cal once per day 5ml of all one per night and 10 ml of mag once every three days.

Once I’m used to it and convinced everything is not gonna die and no I’ll effects I’m going to start a once per hour every day schedule with the other two at the half hour and 45 min on a hour for mag.

Dosing Red Sea ABC for now but since bottles are almost empty next pay day I’ll grab a set of aqua-forest ABC and probiotic salt!!

My levels now are 440 on cal 11.5 on alk and 1550 on mag.

I use IO reef salt witch has higher levels to start with hence the switch of salt so I can get down to the 8 level on alk and dose form there..

Any comments or suggestions

Lucky day today my employees bar tenders all pitched in and gave me 100 bucks for my tank as a gift so I grabbed a few goodies new test kits for reef fuel some reef roids some more airline tubing. Super happy!

So picked up a BrS rodi 4stage super happy to make some water tonight!!!!


Ready for my high alk problems to be gone forever.


Also ordered a box of aqua forest probiotic salt looking forward to that coming in as the benefits as advertised seem to be well worth the price.

Going to order the components 123 set next week once I get my alk down to the 8.5 number I’m shooting for.

Have not done a water change in a month and alk with tap ato is at 13.5 yesterday stays in this range with ato almost being a doser I suspect from my tap. I live in a agriculture area so I assume my water is full of stuff.

Will also get the brs upgrade with inline tds next week.

Takes forever lol my ato bucket took 20 mins to fill lol I’m guess at least an hour on this 5 gallon bucket for my water change.

Lots of waste water going to save it for drinking water has anyone done this?

So tank update!


this week since adding RODi unit and probiotic salt from aquaforest I have gotten my alk back down to 10.8 on Red Sea and 11.5 on salfrit test kits super happy about this I don’t think the drop was noticed at all by my corals but it’s only been a week.

To drop dkh I did 3 water changes over the past 7days first two with RC salt at 11.5dkh first water change dropped me 1dkh did another with same salt I was at 11.5 as the bag stated. The. My probio came in and I did one two days ago and it dropped another dkh.

Going to do one more in hopes of dropping dkh below 10 and wensday will become my normal water change day and Monday to fill my ato.

Glass dirty a lot faster with probio due to it doing its probiotic thing. Skimmer was turned back on full today to start sucking it up hopefully a small amount has cultured.

Planning to purchase components 123 and energy this week..

Dosing Red Sea ABC currently and reef fuel on pump 4.

So alk is at now 10.2 with me rounding up instead of down. don’t want to get to ahead of my self but I think corals and clams are way happier with the alk drop honestly.

My scans are all full now super puffy as they should be.

My clam has opened up really big although I think it was happy even at the 14 dkh lots of new shell growth at that level.

My zoos are popping babies almost all of them after basically being dormant for at least two months.

My three sps frags only on my digi can I see new growth my Miami tort is still super green no real purple at all. And my tri color valdia still super green not much purple. But I did snip four of the tips on it and all for grew back immediately with polyps sticking almost a day or two later. I glued all three micro micro tops to a Frag plug and they have already started to encrust just a few days later so I think with time all will be well.

My Montis are all super happy and all growing. My reeftech mystic sunset and tyree rainbow are all about a month away from fusing should be interesting long term and some of the yellow polyps on the reef tech are staring to graft imo Turing highlighter yellow and signs of a streak or two we shall see.

So that’s my little up date so far super happy with the aquaforest probiotic salt so far think I’m going to stick with it.

I decided to turn off doser until I hit the levels I want and can keep them there just using water changes then I’ll turn the pump on and starting dosing all day everyday so to speak using the balling method.

I will say with probiotic salt glass Cleanin has to be done more frequently as stuff builds up really fast but I guess that’s the point. Skimmer is kinda skimming if you ask me but it’s working so we shall see if I need new one at some point.


My BRS 4stage value RODi was the best thing I ever bought on my tank If anyone was on the fence btw
