Sleeper Gold Head Goby (The Most annoyng fish Ever)

Does anyone else have one of these, and think it is the most annoying fish? He is great at sifting sand. But to do this, he goes down grabs the sand and proceeds to go up as high as he can and dump it all over my rocks and coral. Every couple days I have to go in and blow my rocks clean. It looks like it snowed in my tank. Everything is white.

Anyone else have this issue, or is my Goby just a little "special"?:crazy:

Yeah, thats pretty common. I was all set to get one. Thought they were awesome and pretty. Then I went and googled them... changed my mind quickly.

And I would love to move him to my 55 in the basement but I can't catch him. He has to be the fastest fish I have ever seen also.

nope, I have the same %%$% problem...

I've own a orange diamond goby and they don't hover in the middle of the tank and drop sand..they stay close to the sandbed...
but I have a 375g tank and to catch this guy is next to impossible, so I make do the best I can

I found that if there is plenty of open space on the sand bed they will not drop sand all over. My old tank it would go to the top and drop the sand all over everything. When i changed tanks and went with the less is more look leaving my sand bed pretty open, i havent had to blow a single rock or coral off.

Diamond Goby's are no better ill tell you that. Mine takes sand and dumps it on my high end chalices than sits there and stares at me.

I had to cover almost all the sand in my tank with rock because anything that was sitting in the sand was going to be covered.

I had a pink spot goby about 8 years ago never hurt anything but this diamond is a pain in my ___ :frusty:

Cant wait till i move and startup a new tank so i can take him out!

I love my sleeper. Like someone else said, keep a sizeable chunk of the sandbed clear and they dont shower the tank, I have noticed after several years they only drop high if the sand is mostly covered, it seems like they dump it high so they can get to new sand on the next mouthfull. i have a 72 bow, and I keep my sand bed clear. I crowded the sand 1 time and he started dropping mid water, cleared a patch 12-16 inches square on one end and he is happy as can be

Update: He was swimming near the top this morning and I was able to sneak the net in and snatch him up. Now he is in my QT and seems to be happy. Thank god no more sand all over the place.

Mine is fine. Doesn't dump sand at all.

Love mine but have a FOWLR. He keeps my sand nice & clean. Have had him for about 3 year now.

I think with sand sifting gobies it is either you love them or you hate them.

My diamond goby is great and I love the clean sand. His personality is great also.
