Yesterday I bought two tiny little Clarkii babies for a dedicated nem/Clown tank. I drip acclimated them for nearly two hours because they are small and I wanted to give them a better chance of doing well. I put them in the tank last night. A little later they ate but were still “hiding” in the back corner. This morning I got up and one was swimming in the corner happily. The other was on its side half buried.... looked like he had a sand blanket pulled up and tucked in under his fins, taking a nap! I thought he was dead but I wasn’t sure. The lights came on a few minutes ago and the clown is up and swimming! Do baby clowns sleep or is there a potential problem?

Thanks

Elizabeth

Clowns do "sleep" for better lack of the word. Many will pick a spot in the corner of a tank where they feel safe. Eventually that is what the anemone is for. Clarkiis are great. I never liked them till I got a pair.

Clowns do all sorts of odd things. My clown use to sleep on its side on the sand bed before I got her an anemone for the home tank. My clown is ocellaris at work tank sleeps next to the hammer coral. I think they are fine. I assure you that you get an anemone and they will dive right in given Clarkiis will host practically anything.

Good.. the anemone is next on the list. He/she looks great now. They’re just so little so I’m gonna worry. It’s just my nature. ;)

Have any pictures of the babies? I love Clarkiis.

Yea... just took some dreadful pictures. :) They are so little... less than 1" and cute, cute, cute. They're one of my favs too!

Clowns can be heavy sleepers, in fact they are easy to catch at night for this reason.

My donis percs came to me really small like that back when, and I was always worried too, but they are tougher than they may seem, just watch overflow slots and such

I had been warned that they sleep crazy ways. My clown swims upside down for about 30 seconds when it first wakes up. Your clowns will have their own freaky habits.
