Slight Drop in Alkalinity, for New tank

Hi, just wanted to ask, would a drop in alkalinity be a sign that coralline growth is occurring?
I have a new tank, about a month old, seeded with coralline about 3 weeks ago. I upped the alkalinity last week using baking soda from 8.5 to about 10.5 and when I measured today, it was back down to 8.5. Basically, why would my alkalinity drop aside from coralline growth?

I am hoping and suspecting that the drop was due to coralline starting, but I can't be sure if what I see on the rocks is in fact coralline. So, my question isn't so much "Do I have coralline" as much as, what can cause a 2 point drop in alkalinity in a relatively new tank with no corals?

Could be a few reasons. What did you seed this coraline with.

Oh nice, I used that a few weeks ago as well, starting to get some pink coraline to go with my purple lol. What’s your calcium and mag been at? If their levels fluctuate it can consume alk at different rates. Also, has your salinity dropped lately or anything?
