Looking for a skimmer under 1k if possible. Weighing out the Bubble Magus Curve 12 versus Tunze 9430 DC. Anyone have any experience with either or any other suggestions?

Everyone swears by the cheap bubble magus, but I have the curve 5 and 7. They are difficult to set.

How much space do you have? I long ago decided that if I was going to have a large system, a basement sump room was essential. Appreciate that not everyone can or will do the same. Allows for 'better' equipment choices (this skimmer was under $1K) though.

agree I have a 5 and its constantly needing adjustment. just changing socks sets it in crazy mode for an hour.

I have a full basement. Space isn't a concern. What are you running?

I have been running equipment made by Aquarium Engineering .
You can look at there sight , I don't know how to post a link to it .

I'm using a 'stretch' version of the MTC power-pro recirculating mazzei skimmer. I've had some nice skimmers in my time, and some less so, but this one has been my favorite. Do keep in mind that it's not so much system volume as bio load that dictates skimmer sizing. Rating them based on volume is a proxy at best.

I like that you have an electrical elbow attached to that return.

I have used long sweep conduit fittings in a few places to carry water (mostly drains before I switched to flex PVC). Idea was to try to minimize friction losses, though in this case I used it because I had one laying around.

lol. It's hard to tell where it comes from. No judgement. Whatever works.

You could also look into lifereef, you can start off with a smaller model and purchase extensions for the neck as your needs for skimming increase (Similar to the MTC).
