cthumphr's 10g - odyssey MH powered

I have kept marine fish many years. Mostly FLOWR tanks, I did have an octopus at one point, but I never really ventured in reefs. All my tanks were salvation army style, a mix and match of whatever I could get cheap. Never thought I'd be able to get into reef tanks.
Recently I took down my 75g and thought I'd be out of the game. Something told me I had to have a tank, so I held back some live rock and sand and got myself a AGA 10g.

I wanted to do things differently than I had before, so I told myself this tank would be built around things I could get from fellow reefers. I wanted to recycle life, not take it out of the oceans. I "heard" that within 20 years most coral reefs in the world will be gone. I don't know if I can believe it will be that quick, but man if that is right that scares the hell out of me.

So with this tank I want to keep it to small frags and other "home grown" things. Props to R2R for creating a community where folks can share frags and knowledge - the more captive grown stuff that's out there the better.

So here is the picture of the 10g on 5/27/09 - it was started 5/7/2009

Updated Picture - 10g

Here is the most recent picture taken 8/4. Everything has been slow. I am trying to get the stuff I have to "grow in" before I look to add more stuff. I definitely want to get some more zoas in here and maybe an acan or two. A clam would be nice, but definitely the last thing.

Anybody have any comments on getting GSP to grow? Mine seems to not be growing much at all.

From my experience, the madder I got at it ( yelling, threatening to flush, etc.) the better it grew for me:tongue:

10 g - the hardware

Here is what I have going for the system

The SUMP/REFUGIUM

Gulfstream Sump (circa 1995) - 11 gallons
Sump has macro algae, sand bed, some LR, and some Xenia and Anthelia frags in it, also hermit crabs (2), stomatid snails, and other stuff
Lighting for Sump - 96 quad light coralife fixture and 26 watt CF bulb 6500k
Mag 3 return pump
Red Sea Prizm Skimmer (not very good, so consider this tank almost skimmerless)
Drip top off system (5 gallon rubber made tub airline leading to the sump - slow drips top off water) (I get my top off RO water at grocery store)
Visitherm - 150watt heater

Main Tank
Aquaclear 201 pump (also very old) - for circulation
Odyssey 150 watt stock bulb 15k (but yellowish tint) with 2 - 14 watt T5 bulbs (makes yellow go away!) - very happy with this fixture so far - $99 new

That's about it.
