Hi all, i am a new reefer, I have a fluval evo 13.5 and am loving every day that I get to learn from it. I use the original lights and the fluval protein skimmer (need to upgrade its booty). I have been reading and reading about Algae crews and just am curious as to if this is the best route? I have like 3 snails that are not keeping up, I wouldn’t say the outbreak has gotten worse it just seems to be dormant( hopefully but probably not). I need to check my parameters when I get home but they have been all normal, and my lighting is usually on for 6-8 hours a day. I have 2 clownfish that I have been feeding lightly 2 times daily, now I have moved to one feeding. I know this is a very common issue and is case to case depending on issues but could anyone possibly give me some tips/insight of how to remedy this issue long term ie: should I just scrap the protein skimmer for now and just stick to my weekly water change, also how much water should I expect to replace each week?

I try to do 10-25% of the tank volume in a WC. As far as the algae it helps to know what sort of algae it is?

Sounds to me like you need to beef up your CuC. I feel the CuC is the most important first step to take with algae.

You may want to consider a package like this one.

Keep the skimmer running along with the water change. I would do 10% to 20% per week.
