My Biota mandarin is super tiny. He went through QT in a 10 gallon tank and I moved him to DT about a month ago. He’s less than 1” in total length. Been missing for a couple weeks and figured he went down overflow and yup found him today! My overflow is quite large, about 10 gallons in volume. I also found my small ORA neon goby. Both look happy and healthy. I think the problem is the high flow in the tank was too much. I have a 150g with about 50x flow per hour. A couple of times I’ve seen both fish struggle with the flow. I have bean animal overflow so there’s 3 drains and a return line (drilled in bottom) so catching the fish will be challenging! I thought about leaving them there until they’re larger as plenty of food goes into the overflow and the fish look well. I have strainers on the drains so they won’t go into sump unless I remove the strainers. I’m also assuming plenty of pods are making their way into the overflow as well. Any ideas? I also thought about closing gate valve on drain, turning off return and then the water level would be high enough for the fish to eventually swim out the overflow weir into DT. It would be ideal to have the fish a bit larger so they are strong enough to do better in high flow environment. I don’t want to drop flow too much and risk coral health. It would be an option though. Thanks for advice!
