Hey everyone. New to the hobby. Bought a 2nd hand Red Sea xl425. Have been cycling for 10 days now and no issues at all. The tank has this chip past the water level on the right hand corner. Previous owner said never had an issue with it but now that I’ve been reading heaps of things about Red Sea tanks failing and bursting it got me sick to my stomach. I was wondering if it’s something I should worry about or just keep going? Wondering if because it’s past the water line all the way up it’s not bad?
Thanks everyone for your time and help
Cheers

You bought the tank with the chip? I’m hoping you paid less than 100$ for that.

Looks more than just a clamshell chip. Never trust what previous owners say. I will say the silicone looks undamaged but I would never fill that tank.

I would not trust that tank. That is a serious chip.

Sorry.

Just my 2 cents here, but as much time, money and effort that go into these little eco systems, I would not risk it. Could be just fine, but that “maybe not” would always be in my mind, better to get a different tank now, than down road when animals lives as well as your time and expense are included. Again, this is just how I would think about it, if it were me.

Thanks mate. Sucks to hear that. It’s been going for a while now. Anything that I should look at as a sign if anything is going wrong or it will just happen one day?

To reinforce it ? Would I have to get someone to do it? Thanks mate
yep and that should work good . just go to a glass shop and have them cut 3" wide strip and silicon them on its easy

I would never trust it but it very well could be ok I just would lose sleep over it

Seal looks undamaged to me and below water line.
Glass does not blow out unless it’s under major stress such as putting on an uneven surface or being hit directly.
If it does not leak and there’s no other damage, I use that.
