On my way home with 1 4 inch maxima and 4 1 inch maximas. I've never kept clams this small and I'm wondering if I should place them further down in the tank? I don't want to blast the little guys with light. Thanks.

Small clams typically means death.

Not always true but yeah kinda true... I think the reason they die is from stress from people messing with them too much. They need to be placed in the tank and left alone.

Too much light shouldn't be an issue with small clams.

Thanks. I've kept 1.5 inch maximas before. These guys are just much smaller. I'll place them and leave them.

I hope they make it. They have some really unique patterns and colors. One of them has a lining of bright green dots when I looked closer.

They are all are beautiful. I had many before the clam plague that were small and grew. I agree with skinz, they die because they stress from being messed with.

Thanks. I placed them in the container because I can move them around without disturbing the foot if I had to. I am going to leave them be. They're in a 24 inch deep cube tank with a 400 watt halide 12 inches above the surface so light wise they have plenty. I have them halfway down.

yes, let us know how they do. Do you plan to feed them? Just curious on your answer because I know there's debate about that also.

Another suggestion Iv'e heard was regarding burping your clams. Some clam owners have mentioned to ALWAYS keep the clam under water when buying it from your LFS because an air bubble can get caught in the mouth of the clam. Some locally have said all you have to do is tilt (burp) the clam upside down under water to get the air bubble out.

As to my comments on them typically dying, I had a few and my clams were inspecting its shell. It was doing fine for a while but it just died for no reason.

I also wouldn't worry about too much like. Clams, unlike most corals, can regulate their photosynthesis by retracting their mantle. If the mantle is extended its ok.

One of my clams I've had for a while was Purchases at this size, so this makes me feel better.

she was about an inch when I bought her. Now that they're settled in they look great.

They have great colors. The smallest is a dark green, the second biggest is a pale green with a orange outline. My favorite is brownish with a lime green outline
