Any suggestions on how to fix this small crack before it gets bigger? Silicone or some clear contact paper? It's a 20g tank.

My vote would be clear epoxy, though that looks like a very difficult fix... Is it a chip on the outside of the tank or an interior crack? Amy additional pictures from the other side?

Luckily the crack doesn’t go to the water. Instead it goes to the black rubber seal.

Here’s some additional pics. It’s right on the edge and goes to the rubber sealant and not the water. It also doesn’t go into the waterline.

Has anyone tried the stuff you fix cracks in your car windshield with. Works pretty good. If done right it stops the crack from expanding, plus in the case I did the crack totally disappeared. Fixed it a couple years ago and still looks good.

I was thinking that but I’d have to look into how toxic that stuff is. Also, dunno if it matters but I’m pretty sure it’s not the same type of glass as a car windshield. I don’t have another tank if it needs to be completely drained.

I would do an aquarium safe epoxy. It is at the top of the tank and it doesn't seem like the silicone seal is impacted. Is the crack on the outside? If it is inside I would be more worried if water can get into the crack it can add just enough pressure t start separating the silicone from the glass and or splinter the glass. Im guessing the pane is tempered as the way it chipped.

The crack goes from the outside to the inside along the rubber seal - meaning that seal is taking the force of the water and not allowing it to fully transfer to the crack. I'm thinking clear contact paper would ensure water proofing (nothing is leaking as of yet). I just need to make sure it won't spread over time.

Man anytime I hear about this it makes me cringe. My vote is new tank the cost to replace vs the cost of it exploded is very minimal I know you are looking for a fix but short of acrylic tanks. I don’t think glass tanks should get a band aid. Just my .02. Good luck with whatever you go with!

The tank is a Red Sea max nano. The sump is integrated so it won't be as cheap as you may think. The crack is 0-0.5" below the waterline, depending on fill. The crack is arched - meaning it won't propagate downwards. I am looking into the cost of replacing the panel.

Red Sea is very good to work with My money is on they would replace this tank no issue at all. I have seen them replace tanks for a lot less. (A sharpie mark)

Agreed, I would contact red sea. They could offer recommendations or work with you to get a new tank. How old is the tank?

It's one month old :( I reached out to them on Friday so hopefully they can help out.

One month, that should definitely be covered. I am not sure about the policy however. If the crack manifested by itself, that would likely be grounds for a warranty replacement. If the crack was caused by something else (rock hitting it, ect.), I am not sure. regardless. I hope this gets straightened out in your favor, RedSea tanks are not cheap.
