Small Eels?

Some years back, I had a Snowflake Moray eel in my 30 gal long. He was about 6 inches when I got him, and grew to about 15 inches 4 years later, before he committed suicide. That was a shame because it was two weeks before the larger tank finished cycling.

Just curious, How'd he do it?

My fault really. He was in a temporary tank awaiting the move, and I had a make shift cover. He had about a 1/2 inch spot to get out and, sure enough he found it. I found him on the floor the next day. So if I can give you any advice, let it be that, if you get one (eel), make sure you have a good top, with all the cracks covered.

I wouldn't recommend garden eels, they're a fish that should be left in the ocean.

Look up engineer gobies, I think it will suit what you're looking for. Even that eel attitude problem lol

I have seen places recommend them for as small as 10 gallon tanks. Personally I don't think fish or eels should be housed in any small tank, but that is my personal opinion. I imagine that you could probably accomplish keeping one in a 20 gallon with good filtration.

Any good eels for a 75 gallon. I have the most perfect spot that the eel would absolutely love I just need one that will be ok in a 75 gallon?

Are there any eels or eel-like fish that can live in a 30 gallon tank?
Melatremus eels would be the best choice. $700 is a bit steep, they are usually closer to $300-400.

Hope someone answers cause I have a 20 gallon tank I wouldn't mind finding an eel for.

Melatremus will still work in a 20.

While not something for a general community tank, in the proper tank they are a very cool fish, that isn't too difficult.

Can they be happy in a 20 gallon?
Yes, melatremus can be quite happy in a 20,

The snowflake would be an ideal candidate.

OK so they are not eels, but they are an eel like fish. Bluestripe pipefish are the easier pipes and will live in that tank if you feed them.

Although I do believe most people over estimate the size of a tank eels need, there is just nothing out there that would be happy in a 20-30 gallon. Even engineer gobies are too active and get too large for a tank that small.

A melatrmus eel will be just fine in 20-30g.

What about this guy?

Taken from "The 101 Best Nano-Reef Species" by Scott W. Michael. Great little book!

Hopefully I don't get sued for posting
