Small fish in sump instead of filter sock?

I just saw in a Facebook group someone suggest using a small fish in their sump in place of a traditional filter sock(s). I think damsels and six lines were suggested.

I’m considering trying this in the section that I use a mesh sock and still keeping the fine felt one, but curious if others have done this?

Anyone else?

I can't see them serving the same purpose in the slightest. Plus a filter sock section is usually a real tiny place to try sticking a fish.

I agree with @sde1500, they just wouldn’t serve the same purpose. The filter sock is basically the first piece of physical filtration, and I don’t think fish could replace it’s work. Adding fish to a section of your sump that has a small refuge in or some live rock could be beneficial, but not in replacement of filter socks.
