Just want to confirm thoughts on this. 75 gallon tank on a slab of granite. I can slide a business card in the middle but all 4 corners are tight. Im assuming the rim is the culprit here as i trust the granite more than aqueon. Any concerns?

I used an electric planar (not long enough) and became overzealous which resulted in less than ideal straight/flatness. The same issue or poor tolerances around the edge of the tank resulted but after the weight of the filled tank and time (humidity included) the gaps decreased.
In hindsight I should of used a leveling mat or pulled the top plywood sheet from my stand and shimmed the top accordingly.

People are in agreement that i should add a thin rubber mat to absorb and balance

As long as all the corners are touching and the tank is leveled you should be fine. Its not a bad idea to use a mat for peace of mind. I bought mine at tractor trailer supply. Don't know the name but its a very hard rubber. I believe less than a 1/4 in. You dont even need to mat the entire stand. Just the outer trim... where the tank sits on all around.

Ive seen tanks supported by just the corners on blocks. What is the harm of a thin rubber mat

As long as the matt doesn't touch the bottom glass and all weight is still on the rim, no harm. You don't want anything pushing up on the bottom pane, as rimmed tanks aren't designed to handle that, and the bottom seam can be compromised.
