I picked up a toadstool today and when I got it home I noticed part of the foot of the coral was splitting around something. It looked like whatever these small green things are were irritating the foot of the coral. I don't know maybe I'm crazy and it's just some species of algae, but the "eggs" feel gelatinous and not what you would expect algae to feel like. I apologize for the terrible picture, my phone won't zoom in any closer. I will try to get a pic under a magnifying glass or microscope tomorrow.

Welcome to R2R!!!
Hard to tel from the pic!

My curiosity was piqued so I went ahead and got my microscope. I'm not sure if you can tell in the pictures I took, but in person, there appear to be little fibers. I don't think they are spicules, but I'm honestly just not sure what this is lol

actually, now that I just typed that, it does really look like a sponge. I'd love some expert input here.

If its a sponge, its definitely a demosponge

upon further investigation, I spied the Mercedes symbol spicules. its a sponge
