Do sea slugs eat zoanthids? Ive tried to read as much as i can but i have removed two small (like 1/4-1/3 of an inch long) black sea slugs with orange feather like fins all over its back. The first one i carfully removed and brought to my lfs to see if it was friendly or possibly valuable haha. So lfs said no and i rid myself of the slug in the parking lot. That was two months ago? Anyway i found another one in my fire and ice zoanthid colony and im worried they might be eating zoas or was this a found at the wrong place right time thing? Either way i revoved the second slug as well and im kicking myself in the rear for not taking photos for id. Anyone seen these or know anything about slugs?

Just google "images of zoanthid eating nudibrach". The coloration may not match because the nudibranch often look like the zoanthids they eat.

They lay eggs on the zoanthids, the egg mass is ribbon shape in appearance. The eggs must be removed manually as a dip will not affect them.

Yes! Thats it! That makes sense that they change color, but thats definitely the suspect. I will have to do some close inspections tonight, my tubs blue zoanthids got hit hard a while back, im up to 9 heads from 3 but i dont want to lose anything!

freshwater dip the rock the Zoa's are on. I had the same issue. Had to do the dip a few weeks later but everything is back to being happy.

I pulled, inspected, dipped, and reinspected all my zoanthids, i will probably repeat this process in a week.
