I have a 75g DT with a 30g sump.

What's the smallest, yet reliable carbon reactor can I get? Space is becoming an issue so I can't go too big. Nothing too expensive either

please and thank you!

I was just looking at that one. I like the size of it. I don't see where it says recommended tank size for it.. do you know?

I just re-read your post and now realize you have a 75g tank. I think the smaller reactor holds a 1/2 cup of carbon. May be enough for your system but certainly pushing the upper limits. You may want to look at the BRS single, full-size reactor instead. BRS has a calculator on their site that will provide the recommended amount of carbon. Check that out and see if the 1/2 cup limitation will work.

Oh, where in sump is it best to place a reactor? I have typical 3 compartment trigger system

Since it's fed from it's own pump (or fed off your return manifold if you have one) it can basically be mounted anywhere, within reason. I use the double reactor and simply have it mounted under my stand.

I am thinking mounting it would be best than to place inside the sump. gotta see if I have room before i order. I'd probably go with standard size (saw in questions section that it's rated for 60-75 gal and that's pushing it.)

I would agree just go with the standard size. It's only a few dollars more and provides options down the road.

And you're quite welcome...happy reefing.

thanks :) after measuring, the standard should fit next to my sump. snug but should fit.

going to wait till after the holidays to order

For about the same price, the Tunze Comline® Filter 3162 or Comline® Streamfilter 3163 seems:
  • more flexible in media
  • nicer
  • more compact (about 4" square, 10" high)
  • it can hide your heater
  • it can hid your ATO sensors
  • AND will add significant flow too

While mounting reactors outside of the sump sounds great, be advised that reactors over time and usage are prone to leak...:D
