I'm investigating what the smallest of the largest angels would be and trying to see how reef safe they can be. I know there are some people who have had large angels have had success with them in their reefs, but I need to stick to the smallest possible as I don't have a 250gallon tank. Any suggestions, thoughts or input would greatly be appreciated

Unofficially, just IME, flagfib, regals, asfur, and majestic seem to stay smaller than a lot of the other lg angels.

of those I think the majestic and the regal are the most reef safe. Any experience with a Singapore or Goldflake? looking for the "best reef compatible", or at least the best chance of one.

Then you should get either Japanese swallowtail (male with yellow mask) or watanabei angelfish. Those are reef safe.

agree with the genicanthus suggestions, any of those are 100% reef safe, but I'm looking at the "other" large angels. Watanabei's are on my radar for sure though. Potters is a dwarf, already have one and so far a model citizen, but still looking for larger angels. I know I will be pushing my limits with larger angels, but I want to try and have one as a center piece, they are what attracted me to marine tanks originally.

I used to think that all Genicanthus are safe, but I've read a few too many times on forums that Lamarck and Bellus would nip at corals. If you are looking for one last centerpiece for a reef setting, you should consider bandit angelfish.

My majestic is a nipper of SPS polyps and I don't have any zoas for him to test out those. Temperament though, he's a chill fish. I have so much SPS though that it doesn't really matter.

Wannatabe is safe and I think Max's out at 5 in. But qt it well. They as a lot of the larger Angel's are prone to carry velvet I'd suggest automatic 30 days in copper.

large angels other than genicanthus are a real hit and miss. Need to think about this one long and hard. Thanks for the inputs
