Smat farms led from Amazon

how does the blue compare to Kessil A360x and Radion G4 Pros, I notice some torches I bought look diff than the website. Is it b/c the blue lights are not the same as the expensive one?

the new version the fan is on max all the time I think? thinking about adding a fan controller to lower the noise?

different lights will make corals look different. Also websites use orange filters and heavy blues.

I compared smatfarm to a radion g5 and the color is not as nice. The price is great though.

just be carful as you can burn the leds out if they get hot.

Trying to remember if they were on max all the time. I feel like they weren’t and it depends on the settings you use.

What settings did you use on each light when you made this comparison?

I just played with them both for awhile and AB type settings. The led layout is different on them so not really surprising they can look different.

I know telegraham did a write up of the light and said spectrum wasn't as nice as some more expensive lights. I decided to see for myself and agree. His solution was just to add a cheap led 470nm bar.

It is still a very good budget light. I liked it a lot more than viperspectra.

Too bad the radion really doesnt have shimmer and when they did it was all disco ball

I don’t really like much shimmer but that’s all personal preference. I guess I didn’t mind the kessil on a small nano. On the bigger tanks it just doesn’t feel good on my eyeballs. Ha.

I run hybrid now with the smat farms. Perfect natural shimmer with the t5s lighting

Ya the T5s can add any color missing too. I think they totally make sense in a hybrid setting. You can fix the color to whatever you want with t5 and get kessil shimmer without kessil price.

I run sunpower with Orphek bars currently but was looking to switch to full led and no T5s just to cut down on the heat in the room and wasn’t sold on the spectrum of the smatfarms alone. It’s not bad though, just not as nice at some other lights. If I kept my Orphek bars then they look great but that is also two extra plugs just to get the look I want. I went back and forth a long time. Was disappointed the spectrum wasn’t there for me as I really wanted lights for $130!! I still may get one for a macro tank though.

I went with Telegraham's recommendation and added a 470nm bar to fatten up the spectrum on my Smat Farm lights.
It only comes on, after the Smat Farm lights have ramped up to full intensity. I really like what it adds. I'm planning on getting another one eventually, for even more coverage. I turned my Smat Farms up again a few days ago. I have the blue channels running at 80/80/80 now.

Right now my single 470nm bar in mounted at the front of the tank, facing towards the back of the tank. Would eventually like to add a second, mounted in the back, facing forward. I just have the LED bar plugged into a smart plug running a schedule. Works good.

Very nice...the 470nm is lighter shade of blue? , does it affect the overall shimmer?

What brand did you go with for the 470mm bar?

Got my light in. I haven’t narrowed down the settings yet but here it is mounted on a 32 gallon BioCube (fits over the rim no problem). That said, I ran into the same issue as others with the tank mount part of the bracket with the screws being almost too small. I used a piece of thick plastic mesh as I didn’t have washers to secure it better.

Also, the remote is junk. It worked 50/50 for me but the controls on the light are easy enough to work.

Oh the shimmer - With the water surface agitation, absolutely amazing shimmer in my opinion, very close to my halides

Regarding the fans, not sure about others, but mine has a setting on it where I can change the temperature that the fan comes on at? It’s set at 35 degrees Celsius (stock setting) but it can go up or down. It’s under “temperature” setting.

No par readings as of right now (don’t have a par meter, don’t know anyone (including local clubs) that have one, and don’t have the funding to risk a BRS “rental”

Moonlight setting - 1% on Channel 3 is way to bright and 1% on Channel 4 is way to purple. If you want moon lights, gotta figure something out separately.

This is lights at 40% everything except green at 30%:
