It's definitely a different light. I'm not sure I would call it an upgrade without knowing more about it though.
This light is only 5 channels, vs 6 channels on the original Smat Farm G5.
This light is lacking the green channel completely. So it will not have the same spectrum of a Smat Farm G5, which had very good spectrum.
This light says it has 34 emitters per
Amazon, but does not tell you how many of each...
hard to get an idea of the spectrum when they don't give you any of that info.
Is it in the info in the box? if it is, please post it.
It looks like it has 20 emitters under standard black box (90 degree?) lenses and then a single puck, so guessing 14 emitters in the puck array? The original Smat Farm G5 had 24 emitters in 2 puck arrays, so 12 emitters in each array.
So it does not sound like the LED arrays are the same either.
The original Smat Farm G5 had 2 side by side LED arrays, each under its own dimpled fresnel lens and it had phenomenal spread and blending because of this. This new light sports a single LED puck array in the middle, under what looks like a similar dimpled fresnel, but then it's surrounded by 4 more arrays with standard 90 degree black box type lenses... So the spread on this thing is going to be completely different than the original Smat Farm, and I'm guessing is nowhere near as good in spread and light blending as the original Smat Farm G5.
it's definitely a different light altogether, I would not consider this a new Gen of the Smat Farm G5 though.
