Smell

[Maine Reefer]

I have a few freshwater aquariums in my room, and they kinda smell. I'm getting a reef tank and I want to know if they smell as bad, less or not at all.

The skimmer does if you don't clean it, otherwise no, not at all actually. Amazingly less smell than my freshwater tanks from the past. A little carbon here and there also helps.

Skimmer smells but the rest shouldn’t. If they do then something is not right.

Sometimes I get a faint whif of ocean water/ beach in the house. Living in Colorado I think it’s nice. The skimmer and filter socks smell foul though!

I would use a granular activated carbon in your tanks.

Not much smell from my reefs. If there is , something is usually off.

Not unusual to get a slight bay-at-low-tide smell after feeding the tank. Should not persist though.
