Smelly tank?

Sorry for creating all these threads of questions! I just wanted to separate the questions so it might be easier, but maybe that wasn't right. :/

So, as mentioned in my other thread(s), I'm thinking of setting up a pico reef tank. One of the things I am taking into consideration is my husband's opinion (LOL) and he is worried the tank is going to, well, stink up the house. He is especially concerned because it doesn't have a top.

We have four freshwater tanks and they don't "stink," but he's worried about saltwater.

Any advice there? Would a tiny topless tank stink up a room?

as long as you keep it cleaned, it shouldn't smell

Your tank should not small at all or no more the you fresh water. Tell him to breath deep, salt water is good for the sinus.

As long as kept up with there should be no odor. Run a 90 with no top, just an open top canopy and a 20 with no lid both in my living room. Not a whiff.

I have noticed my algae magnet if I leave it in the tank the fish eat all but whats between the clip portion and it will start to mold and smell bad I always make sure I open it when done feeding and let that lil piece out

My dirty / used filter socks stink. ( as they should) No smell other than that sweet marine aroma from the tank or fuge. A few days ago my wife insisted the tank smelled until I found a pile of doggy do do

If you have exposed rocks in your tank it could smell but otherwise it shouldn't be any different than a fresh water tank (provided it is kept healthy). If your tank crashes and all the inhabitants die, it will certainly smell...just as a freshwater tank would.

I run a rimless 30 gallon jbj with no top and my last tank was a 90 with a eggcrate top. The only time I smell anything is during a water change and the rock gets exposed. It's still not a smell that'll stink up the house
