Hello all. I have a 120g DT with a 40g sump, it's been setup here at my new home for about a year, and before that it was a 75g that was set up for almost 12 years in my old place. I upgraded to a 120 when i moved, so this tank is old/new...
I'm having an issue with most my snails dieing. At first I noticed a few upside snails that looked as they got stuck and we're pretty much dead, so I threw them out before they stank up the tank. But through out the last week, I keep seeing more snails dead. Not eaten, but just slowly dieing. They just close up and stop moving until dead. These snails are old. Most have to be a few years or so, as I haven't bought new ones in a very long time..
I don't have anything to check water quality on hand, so I can't offer any details on water chemistry. But all fish, coral and other inverts are just fine. I'm getting my water tested tomorrow, but I wanted to post this up as i thought I read somewhere about a disease that kills all snails..
I haven't added any killer crabs, fish or anything that would kill the snails.. I took a few snails and placed them on the sand bed in the front of the tank to see if anything was getting at them. But after 2 days they are still in the same spot and haven't moved, the snails were still closed up tight and did not stink yet, but I chose to toss them away as I didn't want them to rot..
I hope someone can give me a little advice on what they think is going on. IL have my water tested and post that tomorow.. I know my water isn't pristine as I've been busy with 2 babies.. I've had some bad water quality before, but never killed every last snail in my tank like this and have nothing else affected..
Thanks for reading....
