So I lost one of my snails today. I have had him for about a month. Currently my "death snail" is eating him. Should I pull him out or continue to let the death snail go to town?

Gah! It's frustrating I do 10-20% water changes twice a week in a 8g tank. Why would this happen?

Alright I yanked him... I only paid $1.99 for him but I feel sooooo bad :(

I guess my next question is how should I dispose of the shell if I wanted to keep it?

2nd thing I have lost in 5 months. I know it happens I just want to figure out why.

I will kill myself
awwww mrcoffee2 you have a heart.... it is devastating when there is a loss thats why we try to be as responsible as we can to ensure a great life for our livestock. However.... a death here and there will happen... lost my beloved clownfish (who I had for over a decade) to ich... was wonderful to be able to share my grief on this site.....

If you want the shell, let your critters eat the dead guy. Shouldn't take long.
I leave mine in so the hermit crabs have another house incase they want one, if they don't they might even kill a snail for it!!!

How did you lose him to itch? Did you out a fish in without qt first?

BINGO!!! I am a numbskull and got away with no QT for years. All it took was 1 sick fish.. I also lost a huge watchman Goby (puff daddy) that I had for many years. It was so awful and I almost just quit the hobby consumed with guilt over the un necessary loss of life….
I feel for me at least; a QT and medicating is very difficult so my solution has been to purchase quarantined fish from my LFS. I also let my tank go without fish for almost 4 months which is overkill for the ICH organism but I just kept occupied with corals.

Not sure if I lost a snail or it came dead. They say to wait a few days and they come around. I waited. I moved him a bit and he came out dead! Floating away... Burial at see!

Well mine was being eaton by a Nass snail. I figured that was a good sign he had passed lol

You can just smell him! You'll know if he's dead, rotten egg smell, ewwww

I may have lost another. I'm not sure yet. Can't smell him though. A F'n mouse died in the crawl space under my house.
Beats the possum that got killed by the groundhog under the deck last year. That stunk for weeks.
Good thing snails are cheap!
