When I got home from shopping my astraea snail was upside down and dead. I added him 2 days ago and he was doing fine. Maybe my clowns killed him? My parameters are; Ph: 8.2, Ammonia: 0 ppm, Nitrite: 0 ppm, Nitrate: 0-0.5 ppm. everything else in the tank is doing alright. The clowns are pretty small tho, the biggest is about 3 - 4 cm (1.18 - 1.5 inches). They are fed every afternoon and the snail didn't look beat up. I knew it was dead because it smelt bad and its skin was falling off and I could touch its flesh without it moving at all.

Clowns wouldn’t kill the snail. How did you acclimate it ?

Do you have any dinoflagellets growing in the tank? Usually mine have died from that.

Good thing you got him out of the tank. They don’t help the system rotting in it.

I’ve noticed high mortality with snails soon after the are added. I think that transfers are too much stress for them and death isn’t uncommon in these instances. Keep a close eye on any others snails you added if you got more than one recently. You may loose more and removing them as soon as they die is a good idea.
