Snail ID

I posted in the wrong forum, just found this one.
This was found clinging to the underside of a rock in a tank that hasn't had snails in it for probably a couple years. Looks like a mean one. This tank is going away so it'd have to go to my reef tank so need to be sure it's safe, figured I'd give him a chance to live.

I was thinking maybe we could narrow it down a little more. LOL

So it's feeding time and I dropped a couple mysis shrimp in the jar with this snail. It's not even remotely interested in the mysis.

As the other thread, whelk, bad. Get it out of the reef.

Appreciate it! This may explain why I could never keep snails in that tank. It's been up probably pushing 8 years now and stocked it lots of times with cleanup crew, only ever had a couple of huge Mexican turbo snails that survived more than a few months. Hermits went down quickly. Hopefully there aren't any more of them, I moved a bunch of rocks over already. I'll have to keep an eye out at night.

This is the same one I pulled from my tank when I caught it red handed eating a bumblebee snail.

Its a whelk often confused with nassarius and one you dont want

I sent mine to the whelk farm. I like to imagine it is running through fields of wild flowers with the other whelks chasing rabbits and butterflies, it warms my heart.
