Welcome to R2R.

I looked through my books and didn't find it. Do you know how you got it?

And thanks for doing your first post with a pretty good photo! Good job!

I'm not saying it is one, but the shape looks like some kind of Cerith.

Hey #reefsquad, anybody know what it is.

That looks like [some sort of] Cone snail, very very toxic predatory snail that should be removed. A lesser possibility could be some sort of whelk, which are also predators and should be removed.

Scratch what I said previously! I have done some research and found these are most likely olive snails, similar in behavior to nassarius and cerith snails but they look superficially like cone snails. The most likely species is the Lettered olive shell (Oliva sayana).

Strombus maculatus, aka nano conch. These guys are awesome and will reproduce quite well. They are one of my absolute favorite snails. Here's a pic of there eggs, which will appear on glass, powerheads or anywhere they deem safe.

You can see one in this pic, lower left, which is covered in algae.

I believe this may be a whelk snail. Nassarius shares similar shell housing.
A pic of snail with face showing or even against the glass will help greatly

I don't believe whelk snails eat algae...i think they are only meat eaters. The OP said these cleaned his plugs of algae quickly.
