Hi All,

i accidentally got a snail with a bunch of hermits 6 months ago from my LFS. He hangs out almost exclusively under the sand and I love the sand sifting nature of the snail for my nano

Wondering if anyone knows what it is? I have attached pictures of the snail itself when it came out once last week, and a picture of the same type of shell on the hermits I have.

Looks like Cerithium caeruleum, a species of Cerith snail (or possibly a very similar species of Cerith snail). These are hardy snails that will aerate substrate and consume cyanobacetria, film algae, and detritus:

The hermit crab looks like a thinstripe hermit crab (Clibanarius vittatus). These have been reported to attack other invertebrates, like corals, other crabs, and snails.
