my snail has been up near the top of the tank above the water just hanging out on the glass is this normal? should i put him back under for a while?

If its a nerite snail then yes its normal. I believe there are other snails as well that do this. Some are tidal snails and can stay out of water for a while

You can leave him, he knows where the water line is at.

Mine do that too. Not to worry.

12g Nanoreef. Zooanthids, Ricordia, Star Polyps, Acans and two clownfish. CF Lighting, 75% actinic blue, 25% 10,000k white.

May check for stray voltages sometimes they will do that if there is voltage in the water. But some snails just like to do that.

Sent from inside the shark tank!

Perfectly normal. Wait till they start crawling out and you find them on the floor or your stand. My daughter comes and gets me all the time to put the poor snail back in the tank before it dies.
