Hello, just for background I’m still new to the hobby and never quarantine before. I’m trying to quarantine my snails for 75 days, however i’m having a few problems. Just got the snails on Friday from LFS, and already I’ve lost about 8 snails and have 10 left. My setup is a 10 gallon tank, an eheim 75w heater, and a Seachem Tidal 35 power filter. I did use Bio-Spira.

I don’t understand why the water is so cloudy, and this is after a 5 gallon water change. I am feeding a half sheet of seaweed, putting it in the morning and taking out at night. At this rate I fear I might loose them all.

How do you have success in quarantining snails?
What do you feed your snails during quarantine?
Any recommendations of what I should do?

Or do you avoid quarantine and just buy snails from places like algae barn where they are tank raised?

My main goal is starting my new tank, with no hitchhikers. Thanks for your help in advance!

I tested my water with red Sea kit prior to water change and got:
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 2
Ammonia: 1.2

I just did the water change tonight of 5 gallons. I removed old food that was sitting there, and took out snails that I found had died.
I’ll take a look into that article.

Appears you may have polluted your QT with too much rotting seaweed. Ammonia likely is killing your snails.
I QT my snails in an established invertebrate QT with a light that grows algae on the glass and a few rocks in the tank. I occasionally supplement with a little seaweed but place the snails I want to feed directly on it so it is consumed in an hour or so.

Appreciate the advice. What light would you recommend for a 10 gallon tank? Since the tank is new, should I order any type of algae from algae barn?
